Crews, Charles C. (1829 - 1887) Confederate Colonel who fought in most of the Western Theater cavalry campaigns of Major Gen. Joseph Wheeler, initially leading the 2nd Georgia Cavalry and eventually a cavalry brigade. Autograph Letter Signed “C C Crews, Col.”, Hd Qt Crews Brgd, Near Cleveland Tenn., Nove. 6th 1863, to Major E.S. Buford, 1pp. In large part, “The courier line established from any Brgd. reaching from Guntersville in direction of Army Hdqts by orders from Gen. Wheeler is still on duty and I would like them to be relieved and sent to their regmt. Respectfully. I have some men with Col. Morrison that I would like to get back to command - hoping this may be attended to soon.”
