War-date Union home-front letter, 3pp. 8vo., written by a certain "S. H. Weir" [n. p.], August 24, 1862, to his mother concerning the draft, in part: "-the village people are trying to rase up enough volunteers so as not to have anybody drafted. I don't think there will be a draft here. I am not at all afraid of being drafted. If so I can not be compelled to go. Firemen are not exempt in this draft at all. I don't worry myself about it. I think it will be brought around so their will be no drafting down here. That is the effort the people are at now. The 26th Senderal[?] Regiment in camp here start tomorrow for Washington. There is 1000 men and new company came yesterday from the east off the cars. How is John Chaney & Charlie & May. Is John in the meat trade yet and how does he like it - S. H. Weir. Minor spotting, else VG.
