Union soldier's war-date letter, 3pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Marcus Walker, Co. E, 141st New York Vols., Bealton Station, Va., Sept. 20, 1863, to his parents, reading in part: "-we have moved about eight miles further up the railroad and are guarding it. We are now within 5 miles of the Rappahannock River. The Army of the Potomac is advancing. They are at the Rappahannock now - I think that murder quite a tragic for York state but nothing for old Va. There was some deserters shot out of this division last Friday - the order was for the whole Division to witness it but they was scattered so for they could not. I have heard that there was eleven executed - the reb guerrillas come within two or three miles and gobbled a sutler or two once in a while. They took 7 Thursday night - M. B. Walker." The original transmittal cover is included. Near fine.
