Union soldier's war-date letter, 2 1/2pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Marcus Walker, Co. E, 141st New York Vols., Raleigh, N. C., April 20, 1865 to "Well Pa," reading in part: "-I am in usual good health and fine spirits now think the war over as they have ceased hostilities - they are making a treaty of peace. I was very sorry to learn of the assassination of our President and would like to have the man that shot him in my power - he would repent it - we soldiers will be home before a great while six weeks. What do you think. Do you think that the war will last 4 years longer under a Lincoln and Johnson administration - M. Walker." Light spotting, else near fine.
