Embossed printed invitation, 4pp., 5” x 8”, “Compliments of the Staff of Maj. Gen’l Crook, For Friday Evening, February 17th, 1865, At the Revere House, Cumberland, MD.” The three committees are listed including Committee of Arrangements led by Bvt Maj. Gen. B.F. Kelly who would be captured with Crook.On February 21, 1865 while located in Cumberland Maryland, General Crook along with General Benjamin F. Kelley were captured by a group of Confederate partisans under the command of Captain Jesse McNeill. On March 20, 1865, Crook was paroled and placed in charge of a division of cavalry in the Army of the Potomac. He very briefly returned to command the Department of West Virginia until he took command of a cavalry division in the Army of the Potomac during the Appomattox Campaign. Crook first went into action with his division at the battle of Dinwiddie Court House. He later took a prominent role in the battles of Five Forks, Amelia Springs, Sayler's Creek and Appomattox Court House.
