One page, 7-1/2" x 5-1/2", Bucks County, Pennsylvania, August 17, 1780. This is a Revolutionary War bond for the purchase of a horse by the United States. It is partially printed in dark black on period laid paper. A payment form is completed for "...one Bay Horse, 14 hands high, 7 years old...," and appraised in value by "two Freeholders, on Oath....45 pounds" VG. George Washington's Continental Army was in dire need of horses and these bonds were issued to horse owners who both willingly and unwillingly saw their horses march off with the Continental Army.
