c. 1780-1815 Revolutionary War to War of 1812 Era, Scarce Hand-Engraved Decorative "Gourd" made into a Canteen, Very Fine. This rare design Gourd Canteen measures about 5.75" in diameter and is about 3" wide. It has two attached strap loops on the outer sides surrounded with fancy engraved border designs, one side with a central button has a large decorative engraved star shaped pattern with multiple concentric rings. A modern replacement leather piece in place of strap to display how it might be suspended for use. Small hole at top for filling the Gourd and for drinking, this unusual type Canteen having no plug/stopper.
