BARTON, William (1748-1831). Colonel in the American Revolution. Received the thanks of Congress for his daring capture of the British General Prescott in R.I. in 1776. Document Signed, "Wm. Barton", Providence, June 10, 1807, as Major General of the Rhode Island Militia, he appoints Hezekiah Sabin his "Aide-de-Camp". On the verso are two attestations by Samuel Brown, Justice of the Peace, dated April 28, 1808, and May 2, 1809, stating that Sabin was still so engaged, "agreeable to Law".
