Includes, The certificate is for One share issued to the printer, Evans & Cogswell, November 8, 1864. Rough right margin, two holes, one has no effect, the other across the top causes paper loss in the name. ... plus, The certificate is for Two shares issued to C.F. Mitchell, June 12, 1863, yellow paper. The certificate has a 2" x 3" paper piece separated but present.The Importing and Exporting Company was the first of five companies in South Carolina formed during this period solely to run the blockade. Their iron-hulled, side wheel steamer Alice was one of the most effective of the ships with twenty-four successful runs. Founder William C. Bee was the cousin of Confederate Brigadier General Bernard E. Bee who is known both for giving Thomas J. Jackson his "Stonewall" nickname and for being one of the first general officers to be killed during the war, at First Manassas.
