Broadsheet, a complete and authentic issue of The Richmond Whig, May 11, 1863, old tape mends at quarterfold, minor paper loss at center, still an exceptional scarce broadsheet. Both sides are black mourning ruled. from the front is the key report, "Death of Stonewall Jackson," which in large part reads, "Gen. Jackson is dead. the great soul of the more than hero has passed from earth to heaven. We have no heart today for more than the simple announcement of the calamitous fact, the intelligence of which reached us yesterday evening in the following telegram 'To Gov. Letcher; - Gen. Jackson died at fifteen minutes passed 3 o'clock this afternoon. His remains will go to Richmond tomorrow. A.H. Pendleton' ...." there are several additional war reports, but two of particular interest. "General Van Dorn Killed by Dr. Peters" a six line report. And, "The Late Colonel Garnet" provides an obituary and detail of his Richmond funeral.
