Confederate soldier's pencil 4pp. letter written by John C. Cox, a sergeant in the Mississippi 11th Cavalry, signed "JCC" written to his wife. Dateline, Near Marietta Geor, June 29, 1864. In part, Our Brigade has done a good deal of fighting but has been very fortunate not getting many men killed. ... I suppose you have heard of the death of George Smith ... I think the war will close if General Lee whips them in Virginia. I think that Johnson will whip them hear. If that is the case, they cannot carry on the war for the want of men. ... I think we will come back to Miss. as soon as this fight is over but I cannot tell when that will be ... When you think that corn is as high as it will be, you had better sell and save the money. Do not take any but the new issue ...."
