This two piece Johnson Island collection includes: the signature of "I.G.W. Steedman, Col. 1st Reg't Ala. Vols., Wilcox County, Alabama, Surrendered at Port Hudson, July 9th, 1863." Isaiah George Washington Steedman was captured 4/8/1862 Island No. 10, TN., and shuttled through ten POW camps before his release in 1865. ... Plus, An Autograph Letter Signed by W(illiam) A. Wash, 1pp., on Southwestern Book and Publishing Co., datelined Saint Louis, March 8, 1870 regarding his book, "Camp, Field and Prison Life". The connection between the two is the stationary also advertises Steedman's book, Medical History of Johnson's Island.
