Large mounted albumen, 12” x 16” sight, framed, titled "Historic Pictorial Group of the Members of the Legislature, State of Mississippi 1880. Photographed and Combined by Seutter, the Jeweler and Artist Jackson, Miss. " The composite shows 115 members of the legislature and governor J.M. Stone, all listed on the lower mounted, Governor Stone enlisted in 1861, rose to Colonel, was captured in North Carolina, 1865, and held prisoner in Camp Chase, Ohio later being transferred to Johnson's Island, Ohio. Also noted is W(lliam) H(enry) Sims President. Sims fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War, and reached the rank of lieutenant colonel. He lost the lower part of one of his legs at the Battle of Franklin. No doubt, research will discovery many more Confederate Officers in this photograph. The item shows minor foxing, two 1/4’ holes, still remarkable piece.
