Federal soldier's letter written by Milo G. Sage of the Wisconsin 6th infantry. Sage would be killed in 1864 at Petersburg. The 3pp., letter is datelined Camp at Fredericksburg, Virginia, May 18, 1862 to his brother. In part, "We have got the bridge most done, then we will move on again. We have took 13 prisoners since I wrote you before. ... I havemost forgotten how a white woman looks. I haven't seen one in so long. I don't see anything but nxxxxr wenches in shape of woman. I'm glad you think so much of your little woman. ... Since I wrote to you before, we have drawn new hats instead of caps and we have got a big black feather, and we have got leggings too. It makes us look bold as lions."
