Federal soldier's letter written by David B. Boynton who served in the Mass Light Artillery, who was wounded at Weldon Rail Road, August 1864, 5pp., datelined Warrenton VA., Nov. 15, 1862. In part, "I have just returned from a scout for forage for our horses ... we, the driver and me with eighteen teams and 100 Cavalry for guards ... Warrenton is the prettiest place and pretty girls, but they look down on us ... Have sent a few relics in a newspaper but am doubtful about them getting to you. ..A little of the sacred soil. Mix a little water with it and see what a 'Bully Mud" as the boys say. ..." An envelope with the soil is included.
