Federal soldier's letter written by Henry F. Jackson of the Ohio 121st infantry, dateline, Camp near Chattahoochee River, Georgia, July 11, 1864, 4pp., on 4" x 6" stationary. In small part, "We are camped just in front of the Rebel's breastworks, but they are gone across the river. ... They burnt the Railroad bridge ... I see the steeples on the houses in Atlanta from our camp. ... Christiana, make a guess what kind of mineral this is before reading further. It grows here in Georgia, in the ground, is called Isingglass. I thought I would send you it to remember the old state of Georgia if I should never return ..." The letter comes with the original cover , and ... yes also has the Isinglass samples.
