Caption on mount, "MANSION OF JOHN E. SEABROOK. Present Headquarters of Acting Brigadier General E. Q. Fellows and Staff, commanding U. S. Forces. North Edisto, S. C. April 7, 1862", 8" x 6" to larger mount, published by H.P. Moore, Concord New Hampshire, minor breaks on the mount. The image shows six Federal Soldiers and one Civilian on front of the home. The middle second story window captures two Blacks, likely contraband. The lower mount has a key referring to the the marks on the image, "Martin James Post Adjt" and "Office of Post Adjt" and "Sleeping room of Post Adjt.". Also to the left lower is additional manuscript ID, "Was Post Adjt for about seven weeks - This mansion was post headquarters". The William Seabrook House, also known as the Seabrook is a plantation house built about 1810 on Edisto Island, South Carolina, southwest of Charleston. It is located off Steamboat Landing Road Extension close to Steamboat Creek about 0.7 mi from Steam Boat Landing. Captain William Seabrook, wealthiest of the cotton planters, owned 1,500 slaves on Edisto Island in South Carolina.
