An amazing 19th Century ink drawing of Abraham Lincoln. The drawing measures 16 3/4" x 21 1/2", in what looks to be the original frame. Above Lincoln's image it reads "Penmanship of E.H. Orton". To the left and right are flags, one with "Union" in the canton. Below Lincoln's image, which is the Berger pose taken by photographer Anthony Berger in February 1864, is a scene of a small cabin with a woman standing in the doorway with a split rail fence behind it. There is a small image of a man holding an axe at the lower right. Below this depiction it reads "The Lincoln Home In Illinois, Where the 3000 rails were split". Lincoln was touted as the "Railsplitter of the West" during his Presidential campaigns. On the back of the frame in ink it reads "Presented to Mr. R. Prolong by E.J. Prolon of Hartford, Conn". The details are superb, that of an accomplished artist. The Berger pose was used on campaign material during the 1864 Presidential race, and could have possibly been drawn during the campaign. A truly unique piece of Lincolniana.
