5" x 7" mounted to 10-1/2" x 13" board. The oval image is that attributed to Joshua Fry Speed, and is surrounded with a floral wreath atop of which is the American Eagle holding a shield, The Martyr of Freedom. Inset in the wreath is a facsimile of the Lincoln signature. Below the wreath, "Sixteenth President of the United States". The piece is copyrighted to Chas. Magnus. Has tanned slightly, still scarce. This is considered to be the FIRST image showing Abraham Lincoln as President. It is believed to have been photographed at some point between March 1, 1861 and June 30, 1861. The exact date and the photographer are unknown. The photograph is often referred to as the Speed photograph due to a larger inscribed version of the image that was presented to Mrs. Speed a friend of the President.
