PICKETT, George Edward (1825-1875) was a career United States Army officer who became a major general in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. He is best remembered for being one of the commanders at Pickett's Charge, the futile and bloody Confederate offensive on the third day of the Battle of Gettysburg that bears his name. HUNTON, Eppa (1822-1908) was a Virginia lawyer and soldier who rose to become a brigadier general in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. ANDERSON, Richard Heron (1821-1879) was a career U.S. Army officer, fighting with distinction in the Mexican–American War. He also served as a Confederate general during the American Civil War, fighting in the Eastern Theater of the conflict and most notably during the 1864 Battle of Spotsylvania Court House. A Confederate officer’s 2pp. letter written by “Richard Grinstead, Lieut. Cmdg. Co. K 19th Va Infantry”, who enlisted on 5/20/1861 at Charlottesville, VA as a Private into mustered into "K" Co. VA 19th Infantry. Datelined Co. VA 19th Infantry, July 18th 1864. In full, “Private George D. Davis Co. K, 19th Va Inftry, having sent in an application for his discharge on the 27th June 1864 on account of being a nonresident and he having served faithfully his term of enlistment. I respectfully ask what has become of his application?” The endorsements on the reverse include; “Hd. Qur Picketts Div, July 19th, 1864, Reply Forwarded G.E. Pickett, Maj. Gen. Cmdg”; and , “Hd Qur. Hubton’s Brigade, July 18th, 1864, Respectfully forwarded, Eppa Hunton, Brig. Genl.; and , H’qtrs July 20th, 1864 Reforwarded “R. H. Anderson” Lt. Genl. Research advises that Davis was Wounded 6/27/1862 Gaines' Mill, VA; Wounded 8/30/1862 2nd Manassas, VA; Hospitalized 2/10/1863 Charlottesville, VA (With spinal disease).
