DANE, Nathan (1752-1835) helped formulate the Northwest Ordinance while in Congress, and introduced an amendment to the ordinance prohibiting slavery in the Northwest Territory. TIFFIN, Edward (1766-1829) was an American politician from Ohio. Tiffin became the first doctor in Chillicothe, traveling on horseback, day and night, to treat the afflicted. He arrived with a letter addressed to the governor of the Northwest Territory, Arthur St. Clair from George Washington, recommending him for public office. LANGHAM, Elias (1749-1830) During the American Revolution, he attained the rank of first lieutenant. Langham became a surveyor for the federal government and helped survey the Northwest Territory. Langham also served as a judge of the Court of Common Pleas for the United States Territory Northwest of the Ohio River. Autograph Document Signed "Nathan Dane Commissioner", war dated July 19, 1782, in which Dane provides a tax receipt for William Hogtsine in the amount of two hundred, fourteen shillings & eight pence. Autograph Document Signed "Edward Tiffin", datelined Territory of the United States, North West of the River Ohio written to the Sheriff being a warrant for James McLane ... to answer unto Alexander Crague of a plea of trespass ..." Paper seal intact, horizontal repairable split. Autograph Document Signed "E. Langham" as a Justice, datelined Territory of the United State, March 30, 1799 in which he administered the oath to James Soth to become a commissioner.
