They include: March 7, 1866, Front page reports The Reconstruction Committee, which played a major role in Reconstruction in the wake of the American Civil War. It was created to "inquire into the condition of the States which formed the so-called Confederate States of America, and report whether they..." March 29, 1866, Page 2, column headline, President Johnson's Veto with a 1/2 column report, in part "The fact that the President vetoed the Civil Rights bill does not imply that he is opposed to the establishment of certain safeguards for protection of the Freedman ... the President declared his determination ... to maintain the principles of the Constitution, and as the Civil Rights bill is manifestly an infringement upon the reserved rights of the states ... Separate report from Wisconsin, "The Negroes Declared by the Supreme Court to Have Rights of Suffrage." And small report "Negro in Paris Kentucky who had outraged a white ... was last evening taken by the citizens from jail and hung ..." April 7, 1866, from the front page, column stacked heads, "IMPORTANT!", Congress Yesterday, Passage of the Civil Rights Act by the Senate Over the Veto, The Vote 33 to fifteen"... in small part, "It was after 6pm before the vote was reached. ... When the result was announced - 33 for the bill and 15 against ..." The issue as some double printing not affecting this report.
