The register ledger sheet has 15 guest signatures for August 3rd & 4th, 1860 including "D(uncan) F. Kenner. Louisiana; Walter H(erron) Taylor, Norfolk; and Preston Smith, Memphis Tenn. Preston Smith (1823-1863) was a lawyer and soldier from the state of Tennessee who served as a general in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. He was killed in action during a night attack during the Battle of Chickamauga in northern Georgia. Walter Herron Taylor (1838-1916) was an American banker, lawyer, soldier, politician, author, and railroad executive from Norfolk, Virginia. During the American Civil War, he fought with the Confederate States Army, became a key aide to General Robert E. Lee and rose to the rank of Colonel. Duncan F. Kenner (1813-1887) was an American politician who served as a Deputy from Louisiana to the Provisional Congress of the Confederate States from 1861 to 1862. In 1864, he served as the chief diplomat from the Confederate States of America to Europe.
