George E. Ingalls, On 5/24/1861 he mustered into "G" Co. NY 17th Infantry .He was dismissed on 11/10/1862 Henry Seymour Lansing (1824-1882) was an American Brevet Brigadier General who commanded the 17th New York Infantry Regiment during some of the deadliest battles of the American Civil War Daniel Adams Butterfield (1831 - 1901), was a New York businessman, a Union general in the American Civil War, and Assistant Treasurer of the United States. George Webb Morell (1815 - 1883) was a civil engineer, lawyer, farmer, and a Union general in the American Civil War. Fitz-John Porter (1822 - 1901) as a career United States Army officer and a Union general during the American Civil War. He is most known for his performance at the Second Battle of Bull Run and his subsequent court martial. Document Signed by Multiple Generals. The items begins with an Autograph Letter Signed by "George E. Ingalls", Camp 17th Regiment NY Vols, Harrison Landing VA., July 39, 1862, written to Col. H. Lansing. In full, Colonel - Feeling aggrieved in having two junior Lieutenants who have not been long with the regiment, promoted over me, and having pressing business which requires my immediate attention, I for the second time respectfully tender my immediate and unconditional resignation." ... plus, The responses are dated July 31, 1862 beginning with Maj. Gen. McClellan's response in the hand of his AAG. In full "Head Quarters Army of the Potomac, July 31 '62, Resp. returned, not formally considered. It is suggested that a Board of Examination be called before whoever this officer may cited. By command of Maj. Gen. McClellan and signed by Jas A. Hardie, Lt. Colonel aaag." ... plus, on the reverse, "Reply frwd. I have no means of judging of Lt. Ingalls capacity other than Col. Lansings endorsement on the other side, Dan'l Butterfield, Brg. Genl". ... plus, "Respectfully forwarded the office tendering it is ... of frustration of the position he holds, and I respectfully recommend he be dismissed from the rolls, H.S. Lansing, Col.17th NY Vols." .. plus "Respectively forwarded. Not approved. Geo. W. Morell, Brig. Gen'l. ... plus, "Head Qrs. S. Camp. July 31/62, On the grounds prevented by Lieut. Ingalls, not approved. F. J. Porter, Maj. Gen. NY."
