Union soldier's 2pp. letter written by Sergt. Henry J. Copestick who on 10/4/1861 he mustered into "E" Co. PA 88th Infantry. He was Mustered Out on 6/30/1865 at Washington, DC. Letter has fold splits. Includes original cover which is franked by Chaplain Charles W. Clothier of the 88th Penn. Dateline; Camp near Fletcher's Chapel, Monday Jan 27, 1863. In part, "Lieut. Forbes has resigned and is home. He has got some news for you about me, how I have been treated and cheated out of a Lieutenency. I cannot explain in my letters. ... I was in the last battle of Fredricksburg, and that was a bloody battle. We have stayed half our time and I think we shall have to stay the other half for I think this war will not be settled as long as the government has got money ..."
