Doctor's Note, 8" x 5", "Lt. Pope - Reseating of lower third of radius + ulva - taking tonics + stimulate. Did well from the time of admission until the night of July 26th when he was taken with fever .... During the 27th he took a mixture ... which reduced the pain ... Between 8-10 he had a chill and another about 7 o'clock on the 28th. ... the patient complained of nausea and could not retain the breakfast...." Pope was dead several days later. George W. Pope was on 10/28/1861 mustered into "G" Co. MA 29th Infantry , was wounded 6/17/1864 Petersburg, VA (Severe wound in elbow), and died of wounds on 8/5/1864 at Washington, DC.
