JAMES BARNES (1801 - 1869) Union general who fought at Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Chancellorsville, and was wounded at Gettysburg. Autograph Letter Signed "Jas Barnes, Brig. Gen'l" on field printed letterhead, "Head Quarters District of St. Mary's, Point Lookout MD" December 28, 1864, to Capt. Augustus Kilty of the USS Roanoke, 1pp. In full, Can you loan me some suitable tackle to enable me to raise a flag staff. It is very heavy and I have no rope strong enough to trust it. If without inconvenience you can do so I shall be much obliged. It will be returned without delay."
