Nathaniel Collins McLean (1815-1905), was a lawyer, farmer, and Union general during the American Civil War. Document Signed "N.C. McLean, Brig Gen'l", on official 4 page partially printed letter, 5" x 7-3/4", issued by Adjutant General's Office, Washington, April 21, 1865. In part, "Your resignation has been accepted by the President of the United States to take effect the 20th day of April, 1865..." McLean acknowledges on page 4, "Rec'd the written acceptance of my resignation May 22, 1865 at Cincinnati Ohio. N.C. McLean, Brig. Gen'l". Included is the original printed cover.
