Document Signed, "Edward C. Mauran" as Adjutant General, 1pp., on State of Rhode Island stationary. In large part, "Special Orders, No. 6, Providence, April 3, 1865. Our armies successful! The Rebels driven in every direction. The Union is preserved! In honor of the brilliant and decisive victories of our gallant army, official information having been received of the occupation of Richmond and Petersburg by the Federal forces, you will cause a Salute of 100 guns to be fired by your command immediately upon receipt of this order."
