April 1, 1807, Manuscript Letter Signed, “Sam. Boyd,” as “Guardian of Peter Byvanck an Infant,” City of New York, where the New York Literature Library Lottery highest prize is Won by an Infant Child and is Claimed by His Guardian, Fine. This original Manuscript Letter measures 5” x 7” is dated in 1807, 2 pages (face and back). This is a Lottery Claim for two minors who have apparently won one-seventh part of a $30,000 Literature Lottery prize. This totals a winning prize amount of $3634.28 after a 15% commission and $60 to pay two boys to spin the wheel. One winner is Peter Byvanck an infant, signed by Samuel Boyd as his Guardian and the other winner John Brasher, also a minor, signed by John Abeel as his Guardian. The entire text is very nicely written on period laid paper that is clean and easily readable, in deep brown ink. This is an extraordinary early American Lottery related document that is the first we have encountered in several decades to the instance of a prize is Won by an Infant Child and Claimed by His Guardian.
