GREELY, Adolphus Washington (1844-1935) was a United States Army officer, polar explorer, and recipient of the Medal of Honor. He was the son of John Balch Greeley and Frances Dunn Cobb Greeley. He was a third cousin of American author and statesman Horace Greeley. Autograph Letter Signed "AW Greely" 1pp. octavo, December 26, 1916, and reads in part: "...Find enclosed the letter desired, which I hope may, be useful in connection with your desire to be a Fellow of the R.G.S...." Fine condition.
