INGRAHAM, Duncan Nathaniel (1802-1891) was an officer in the United States Navy who later served in the Confederate States Navy. He resigned from the U.S. Navy 4 February 1861 to enter the Confederate States Navy with the rank of captain. He served as Chief of the Ordnance Bureau from 1861 to 1863, and as Commandant of the Charleston naval station from 1862 to 1865. Autograph Letter Signed, 1pp., Bureau of Ordinance, April 17, 1856, to Captain Knap, Fort Pitt Foundry. In part, “The Secretary of the Navy having sustained the opinion of this Bureau against the reception of sixteen IX inch guns manufactured by you, I should be glad to know if you are willing to enter into a new contarct for the casting of part or whole number of guns embraced in your former contract ...”
