c. 1770-80s Revolutionary War Era, Ornately Carved Wooden Sewing Clamp, Complete and Working with Original Handle, Fine. This extremely rare ornately hand-carved Revolutionary War era wooden sewing clamp, measures 9” long, 5” tall and 3” wide. A rarely encountered example having a natural, quite beautiful original deep rich overall patina. Decorative lathe turned devices suggest the importance of this item to its maker. Sewers would use this device to clamp fabric to a solid surface, thus freeing up their hands for stitching the cloth. A highly unusual period display piece that has light wear having seen actual use. The very first specimen of this important Revolutionary War era device we have offered.
