Butler Funny Money, 7-3/4” x 3-1/2.” Imitation paper money printed on both sides in green ink probably in connection with the 1884 presidential election when Benjamin F. Butler was running as a candidate of the National (Greenback) Party. On the right side of the recto is a depiction of "The Mint" which consists of a "Paper Mill" where "Rags" are turned into paper and a "Printing Press." On the left side of the recto is a medallion enclosing the head of Benjamin F. Butler with a description of his candidacy below. On the verso is a vignette of Butler feeding slips of paper labeled corn, oats, etc., to a flock of geese. The dome in the background may represent the State House in Boston. The bill is covered with satirical remarks on the value of paper money
