A rare War of 1812 state of Connecticut secession concerning the Hartford convention in which that state proposed to secede from the United States of America on over its policy of prosecuting the war. The letter is, 1p. 4to., written by US Senator from Massachusetts George CabotHartford, [CT], Dec. 23, 1814, to Nathaniel Terry [father of Civil War/Indian Wars General Alfred Terry] as chairman of the Committee of Arrangements. Cabot writes, in part: "The invitation from the gentlemen of Hartford…has been received by the members of the Convention as a mark of respect which gives me the highest satisfaction & justly desires their warmest thanks…considering the nature & circumstances of the occasion of this meeting, they are obliged to deny themselves a pleasure which otherwise, they would have been proud to participate…represent these sentiments of the members of the convention & accept the assurance of my highest personal respect…George Cabot…". With attached transmittal leaf addressed to: "Nathaniel Terry, Esq." Near fine with toning affecting the endorsement panel.
