BURNET, David G. (1788-1870) was an early politician within the Republic of Texas, serving as interim President of Texas (1836 and again in 1841), Vice President of the Republic of Texas (1839-1841), and Secretary of State (1846) for the new state of Texas after it was annexed to the United States. Document Signed, "David G. Burnet" as president issued to Charles DeMorse, Texas' stock commissioner, who has signed on the verso. Bond No. 1717 containing ten coupons with several punch cancellations, and some paper loss on the margins.In December 1840, Burnet became acting president when Lamar took a leave of absence to seek medical treatment in New Orleans for an intestinal disorder.
