A complete and authentic issue of The London Chronicle, Sept 8-11, 1781, disbound, VG. Over half of the front page under, "American News" being a letter from General Greene from camp near Ninety-Six, June 20, 1781, to General Washington. This is a fine & detailed report on the siege of Ninety-Six, ending with: "...The troops have undergone incredible hardships during the siege, and though the issue was not successful, I hope their exertions will merit the approbation of Congress. We continued the siege until the enemy got within a few miles of us..." ... then on pg 7, Another nice report taking over two-thirds of a page is more "American News" with "General Orders" which begins: "In consequence of the Commander in Chief's report of the expedition under Brigadier General Arnold (now British) to Chesapeak in January last..." and is followed by a letter to Governor Franklin from Lt. Col. Upham, datelined Fort Franklin. Part of the report includes: "...When the world shall know that 38 men have marched five miles through an enemy's country, captured 30 men...without the loss of a single man..." and also: "...The French & rebel army now at the White Plains about to about 7000 men...The report in the norther counties respecting Fort Stanwix is that it was given up by treachery, the whole country is in fearful apprehension of the Indians..." with more. .... and from pg 8, "...that General Washington, with his army, was before New York, waiting for a reinforcement & that General Greene...were moving with the greatest expedition from the south to join him..."
