Newspaper Group, nine consecutive issues of the National Intelligencer, Washington. July 31, 1839 through August 31, 1839, each 4pp., all still bound together (easily separated), disbound from larger volume. Overall VG, one issue has “thumb piece” missing from margin, two issue dark, all others as expected for the period. Each issue has runaway slave ads; many of them with unique content, such as; “One Hundred Dollar Reward ... my negro Moses ...A few days previous to his departure he was whipped by order of the justice, for stealing ...”; “Cash for Negroes - wish to purchase a number of Negroes for the Louisiana market ...” “1150 Dollars Reward ... three negro men, Nat, Sam and Essex” with descriptions of each; “Five Hundred Dollars Reward ... living near Point of Rocks, two negro men ... George, about 21 years ... Henry, his brother ...” Many of these ads repeat; and there are many others.
