Union letter written by “D. Harris Clark” who enlisted on 7/2/1861 as a private into "B" Co. MA 16th Infantry and was listed as, “Exchanged (date and place not stated); Wounded 8/29/1862 2nd Bull Run, VA.; POW 7/2/1863 Gettysburg, PA.” The for page letter is datelined Philadelphia, Sept. 21, 1862. In small part, “... at the landing to Malvern Hill ..at the Church where Col. Wyman was killed and you received your wound ... The Rebs opened on our advance ... several grey backs were marched to the rear as prisoners ... The Rebel Artillery had good range of the road and a number in the 11th got wounded ... It was thought that the Rebs were surrounded and would have been if Gen. Patterson had not been drunk and left a hole .. four hundred prisoners taken ... the officers had to march after we left Warrenton and it used them up pretty well. the Adjt stood it best ... Col. Lamson fell out the first day and laid down side of the road ...”
