Private W. H. Van Riper Carte de Visite, circa 1886. 2.5" x 4". Taken by photographer F. Hardesty of San Antonio, Van Riper is pictured in a vignetted, portrait image facing slightly to his left and sporting a heavy mustache. An inscription on the verso reads: "W. H. Van Riper of San Antonio 86/Dep U S M." Van Riper served with the Medina County Minute Men, Company "V," September 1872 through August 1873. Following his retirement from law enforcement (he also served for a time as a Deputy U.S. Marshal), Van Riper moved to California and practiced medicine in San Diego. Scattered areas of foxing.
