A complete and authentic issue of the Baltimore Patriot Evening Advertiser, April 19, 1814, 4pp., disbound, minor repaired edge tears, VG. Appearing on the back page are four notices issued by Morris Jones, Sheriff of Frederick County Maryland that “Was committed to the goal of Fredericksburg ...” The first is Noah Smith, a runaway negro man ... says his left leg has been broken ... belongs to John Darnell late sheriff of Prince George’s County. The owner is requested to come and release him, otherwise he will be sold for the imprison fees. The second is Notice with similar language is for “a runaway mulatto women named Hanna ... says she belongs to John Rose of Leesburg Va. ...” The third is “a runaway Negro man named James 65 years of age ... says he belongs to the estate of the late Robert Brent of Charles County ...” The final Notice is for “a runaway mulatto boy named Frederick ... says he belongs to William Ball of Ann Arundle County ...” In addition, we notice three Runaway Reward Slave Ads to include front page “30 Dollars Reward!” “Absconded from farm near Beckley’s tavern .... a Negro girl named Sue in the company of a white girl named Mary Zepth ...” Also, “Eighty Dollars Reward ... a likely Negro boy named Sandy, about 17 ... His mother lives at Mr. Stewart’s, Ann Arundle ... his father lives on sparrow point ... he was seen a few days ago with his father, John, who will no doubt conceal him. ... He will doubtless endeavor attempt to pass for free. ...” Also, “50 Dollars ... a negro man named Perry Murray ... I lately purchased him of Mrs. Elizabeth Wilson ... “ Signed by “John Tucker on board sch Little John lying at Mr. Flanders ship yard.” And finally, a smal ad “FOR SALE, A Black girl, slave for life, aged 15. Has been accustomed to the care of children ... can be well recommended ...”
