A complete and aurhentic issue of The “Evening Star”, April 15, 1865, 4pp., never bound. from the front page, the news is announced, “ASSASSINATION OF THE PRESIDENT” with reporting running 2-1/2 columns. The dispatches are from Stanton’s War Department and include plenty of details such as, “It is now ascertained with reasonable certainty that two assassins were engaged in the horrible crime - Wilkes Booth being the one that shot the President ...” The entire second page is taken with assassination news with column heads, “The Death of the President”, “Additional details of the Assassination,” ... One report shows Dr. Abbotts notes from 11:00 through 7:22. Rarely offered issue.
