HARMONY, David Butts (183-1917) was a rear admiral of the United States Navy, who served during the American Civil War. GHERDI, Bancroft (1832-1903) was a rear admiral of the United States Navy, who served during the Mexican–American War and the American Civil War. He had the distinction of being the first Italian-American admiral in the United States Navy. WILTSE, Gilbert Conwall (1838-1893) was Lieutenant in 1861 and Commander in 1865. He served with distinction during the Civil War and was given command of the Swartara in the North Atlantic Squadron in 1884-5. Pre-printed Navy Department form, filled out in hand, with endorsements of “Bancroft Gherdi” Rear Admiral Commandant; “D.B. Harmoiny” acting Secretary of the Navy; nad “G.C. Wiltse” Captain Commanding. The form assigns the paymaster to six more months service on the USS Minnisota.
