Book, “Coming Back with the Spitball, A Pitcher's Romance,” New York 1914, hard bound, first edition, with full color printed paper illustration laid down to front board, 70pp. The interior contains three photographic pages. Purportedly based on the career of Ed Walsh, about an over the hill alcoholic pitcher gone to seed, but who salvages his career with a spitball. VG. Ed Walsh was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1946. His finest individual season came in 1908 when he went 40–15 with 269 strikeouts, 6 saves and a 1.42 ERA. His career 1.82 is the lowest major league ERA ever posted.
