The voucher documents are 8-1/2” x 14”, preprinted and filled out in manuscript. They include; Document Signed by “Jacob Yoes” United States Marshal authorizing, September 24, 1892, $27.00 to Robert Stevens as a posse member in the arrest of Thomas Knight and James Buchanan in Choctaw Nation. ... plus, Document Signed by “Harry Clayford” Deputy United States Marshal, May 30, 1893 authorizing $48.16 to Dixon Canley as a posse member in the arrest of T.O. Davis ... plus, Document Signed by “S.T. Minor” Deputy United States Marshal, May 14, 1891 authorizing $84.40 to W.A. Dees as a posse member in serving warrants on four named outlaws. All VG. Jacob “Black Jake” Conrad Yoes (1839-1906), was a miner, soldier, entrepreneur, and one of the best known of Judge Isaac Parker’s U.S. Marshals. In 1862, he enlisted in the First Arkansas Cavalry of the U.S. Army where he fought in the Battle at Prairie Grove. During his service, his primary task was fighting bushwhackers, of which, he is said to have killed about 50 men. Along the way, he took shots in both hips and the left leg. In 1864, he refused a 1st Lieutenant’s commission and was discharged. In May of 1889, he was appointed U.S. Marshal of the West District of Arkansas with 200 deputies under his command.
