HUMPHREY Jr., Hubert Horatio (1911-1978) was an American politician who served as the 38th vice president of the United States from 1965 to 1969. He twice served in the United States Senate, representing Minnesota from 1949 to 1964 and 1971 to 1978. He was the Democratic Party's nominee in the 1968 presidential election, losing to Republican nominee Richard Nixon.Typed Letter Signed "Hubert H. Humphrey" 1pp. quarto, on "The Vice President" letterhead, February 4, 1966, addressed to the Director of Admissions of Douglass College, and reads in part: "...I should like to call your attention to the application for admission to Douglass College being made by Miss Carey Anne Connell...Carey is the daughter of my Administrative Assistant, and has developed in recent years a deep interest in government as a result of a stimulating exposure to the Washington scene. Therefore, she combines widely varying interests - from the arts to the mechanics of government - and will find college a stimulating and challenging time of her life..." Fine.
