Group of four US Colored Troops war-date items, includes: General Orders No. 15, signed by Captain James Wickes, 4th USC Infantry, 1pp. oblong octavo, Camp Hamilton, Virginia, May 1, 1864, and reads in part: “...Soldiers of the Republic! At last justice has been awarded you by the representatives of the nation in Congress, and you stand before the law upon an equality with your heretofore more favored fellow soldiers of the North...The General Commanding congratulates you upon this indication of a national apprection of your worth as soldiers, and recognition of your rights as men...” Fine condition....plus; Broadside “The Second Louisiana” 1pp. octavo, May 27, 1863, in small part: “...Down the long dusky line/ Teeth gleam and eyeballs shine;/ And the bright bayonet,/ Bristling and firmly set, / Flashed with a purpose grand./ Long ere the sharp command/ Of the fierce rolling drum/ Told them their time had come,/ Told them what work was sent/ For the black regiment....” Mounted , else fine condition....plus; “Uncle Ned, As Sung by De Colored Society in General” 1pp. octavo, and reads in part: “...I once knew a darkey, and his name was Uncle Ned,/ Oh he died long ago - long ago, / He had no hair on the top of his head,/ De place where de wool ought to grow...” More. Fine condition....plus; Broadside “THE SLAVE’S DREAM.” 1pp. octavo, in part: “I had a dream, a happy dream; / I dreamed that I was free,/ And in my own bright land again,/ There was a home for me;/ Savannah’s tide rushed bravely on,/ I saw wave roll o’er wave,/ And when in full delight I awoke,/ I found myself a slave; And when in full delight I awoke,/ I found myself a slave...” Fine condition.
