A good group of five (5) war-date letters with covers to or from Union Civil War soldiers. The first, 1p. 8vo., Ship Island, Miss., April 25, 1862 44 year-old Capt. Elphonzo G. Colby 8th New Hampshire with postally used cover with "Ship Island, Miss." straight-line postmark…Second, 2pp. 8vo., Ohio soldier (?) Mallow Camp Lima, Sept. 14 [n. y.] with postally used cover to "Miss. Maggie Kerney, New Holland, Pickaway Co., Ohio"; Third, 3pp. 8vo., "Steve", 4th Pennsylvania Cavalryman, Potomac Creek Station, Va., Jan. 13, 1863 with postally used cover to his sister, "Mrs. Kate Britz(?), Frankfort Springs, Beaver County, Penna."; Fourth, 4pp. 8vo., home-front letter, Frankford, Co., Ill., June 20, 1864, with postally used cover addressed to: "[1st Lt.] T. J. Dean, Vicksburg, Miss, Fifth Ill. Cavalry, Co. F."; Fifth, 2pp. 8vo., home-front letter, May 27, 1865, with postally used cover addressed to: "Lieut. I[ra]. Mc'L. Barton, 28th U. S. [Colored] Infantry, Pine Bluff (crossed out) Little Rock, Ark." OVerall expected wear from usage, else VG 100-200 (5 covers with original letters.)
