War-date Manuscript Document Signed by Colonel Jacob Campbell, 54th Pennsylvania Infantry, 2pp. folio, St. John's Run, April 5, 1862, and reads in part: "Whereas Josiah Buck, late of Morgan County, Va., being in possession of a certain free hold in said county...and having deserted the same and enlisted as soldier in the Rebel or so called "Confederate States' Army...against the Government of the United States in arms violation of the Proclamation of the President of the United States calling upon them to disperse and lay down their arms, thereby committing the heinous crime of treason...the said property having been taken possession of by the United States forces..." and transfers possession of the property to John Culp "a loyal citizen" in exchange for a portion of the hay and grains raised there. Fine condition.
