Autograph Letter Signed “J. Laney, Co. D 33th Infty” 1pp quarto, Saco, June 1815, addressed to Secretary of the Navy Benjamin Williams Crowninshield (1772-1851) and reads in part: “...Permit me, respectfully, to recommend to your favorable notice & patronage Mr. George Simpson, who wishes to obtain a midshipman’s warrant in the United States Navy....He was Quarter Masters Sergeant of the 33d U.S. Infy until the termination of the late war, the duties of which station he performed to my entire satisfaction...” Fine condition.
